Benefits of therapeutic counselling
Therapeutic counselling differs from and extends upon general counselling.
General counselling may provide the following benefits:
A sense of beginning supported and heard.
Increased ability to regulate emotions.
Strengthen and develop problem solving skills.
Enhanced sense of self-worth and confidence.
Learning new life skills and coping strategies.
In addition to these benefits therapeutic and trauma counselling offer the opportunity to:
Process trauma and achieve a reduction in trauma symptoms e.g. reduction or extinction of flash backs or intrusive thoughts.
Decreased anxiety and depression.
Connect with and heal the inner self.
Work with family of origin issues.
Connect with and integrate unconscious, hidden or split parts of self.
Therapeutic counselling as required for working with trauma can mean a greater level of commitment and dedication from the client and tends to need more ongoing engagement than general counselling.
Such work can have a profound impact on your sense of self, your identity and how you view and act in this world, creating positive changes in all areas of life.

“… the two most important phrases in therapy, as in yoga, are “Notice that” and “What happens next?” Once you start approaching your body with curiosity rather than with fear, everything shifts.”
